AdVenture Ages: Idle Civilization

Price: Free to play

AdVenture Ages: Idle Civilization is a new idle game in the popular AdVenture idle game franchise. You start the game by being transported through time. You have to restore history and rebuild your career. The game works all the time even when you’re not online. Otherwise, you basically build and build until you get as far as you can go. The game has reasonably decent depth, better than average graphics for the genre, and there is plenty to do. It plays very similarly to most of the other AdVenture games so if you played any of those, you know what to expect here.

Birdie Crush: Fantasy Golf

Price: Free to play

Birdie Crush: Fantasy Golf is a new golf game with an anime theme. It’s an arcade golf game with some decent controls, fun graphics, and plenty of game play. The game includes a simulation mode, global PvP, and even some story elements to play through. There are some gacha elements to this but it’s mostly in the fashion parts of the game. The game has some bugs here and there but it’s honestly one of the better mobile golf games in recent memory as long as the side stuff and themes don’t turn you away.

Dragon Quest Tact

Price: Free to play

Dragon Quest Tact is the latest free to play game by Square Enix. This one is from the Dragon Quest universe, obviously. In terms of game play, it’s a fairly standard gacha. You collect monsters, build teams, and use them to fight the bad guys. Square Enix tries to give every monster a role so it’s not just a revolving meta, but it’s gonna end up having a revolving meta anyway. It’s fairly F2P friendly for the first dozen or so chapters. It still is after that but progress is a bit harder to get. It should be another hit free to play gacha from Square Enix in the long term.

Kitty Letter

Price: Free with in-app purchases

Kitty Letter is a new word game from the developers of Exploding Kittens. The game has you unscrambling words to progress through a match. Each unscrambled word adds to your little army that proceeds to attack your opponent who responds in kind. You can play with strangers online or with friends if you prefer in 1v1 combat. There are no gacha elements in this game or any card collecting mechanics. You simply log on and play. There are in-app purchases, but it’s for cosmetic gear that doesn’t add to the game play at all.

Pirates of Freeport

Price: Free

Pirates of Freeport is a text-based roguelite game with RPG mechanics. You create a crew of pirates and take on various enemies in various situations. The game is actually pretty tough so it’s a good choice for folks who like a challenge. Some of the other game features include the ability to customize your party, collect various pirate ships, and manage things like hunger and morale for various boosts. The game is new and has a few more bugs than usual for a new game. However, the mechanics are solid so we hope the developer fixes it up soon.

Rhythm Hive

Price: Free to play

Rhythm Hive is a real-time multiplayer rhythm game. The main focus is the 1v1 battles you have with other people online. The game uses taps, swipes, and holds for its rhythm mechanics and some of the moves you do are actually quite fun. There are a healthy number of tracks to play through, a practice mode to improve your skills, and a mix challenge where you play a mix between three songs. There are parts that aren’t as smooth as we’d like, but it should get better over time. It’s a fun game overall.

Slay the Spire

Price: $9.99

Slay the Spire is an interesting game. It’s a mix of a card game and a roguelike. There is only a single player mode so there is no worry about building a meta deck to compete online. Basically, you play the game, unlock cards, and build a deck. The deck is used to climb the spire. You will fail a bunch of times but the hope is every attempt gets you a little closer to the top until you conquer it. There are some flaws, though. Card text is very small, the controls could be better, and there are some bugs on some devices. We hope the developer circles back around and fixes some of them. It’s otherwise a pretty good game.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom

Price: $11.99

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom is a mobile port of the remastered game from 2020. The original game was on PS2, Xbox, PC, and Game Boy Advance. It’s a platform adventure game where you play as SpongeBob and take on an army of invading robots made by Plankton. The mobile port is a reasonably decent effort. It includes the whole game in all of its glory, including some bits added to the remastered version. The only real difference are the mobile controls. It seems the developers are on top of most of the game’s bugs and have released several updates to stabilize the game at lunch. That’s really good news.

Stellar Hunter

Price: Free to play

Stellar Hunter is an RPG with some roguelike elements. The roguelike elements add luck into an otherwise typical RPG scenario. The fun part is the challenge. Unfortunately, a lot of the combat is RNG so you can brute force a lot of stuff with a little bit of patience. Still, you can improve your chances with good gear and a good party and that is the other big part of the game. It’s a bit hit and miss with players, but most seem to enjoy it.

Titan Quest: Legendary Edition

Price: $19.99

Titan Quest: Legendary Edition is a re-release of the mobile version of Titan Quest. This version includes every DLC the game had to offer when it was originally launched in 2006. Otherwise, it’s basically just Titan Quest. For those who don’t know, Titan Quest is an RPG hack-and-slash game. There is a story to play through, tons of things to do, and plenty of loot to grind for. Then, on top of the base game, you also get unmitigated access to the Immortal Throne, Ragnarok, and Atlantis DLCs. It’s a bit expensive, but you can easily get dozens and dozens of hours of hardcore RPG game play out of this one.
